How to remove a cooker hood?

You can remove a cooker hood by yourself. However, it is recommended that you consult a professional.
Here is our simple method for removing a cooker hood.

1. Disconnect your power source

2. Inspect the area above the hood to learn the ducting information

3. Remove all of the covers, filters, light bulbs etc

4. Identify the wiring connections in your hood and disconnect them

5. Remove the cable or conduit connector as well as the fasteners

6. Whilst supporting the hood, pull it away from the power source

7. Terminate the hood power source and turn the power back on.

How do cooker hoods work?

When it comes to cooker hoods, you can either duct the air outside, which is the preferred method as it ensures the highest performance of the hood or if you are unable to duct to an outside wall, you add extra charcoal filters to the hood to use it in recirculation mode. The air is passed through the filter to remove smells and reduce steam and then vents back into the kitchen from the top of the hood. In the case of recirculated ceiling hoods, usually they sit proud of the ceiling as the air needs to be vented back into the kitchen from discrete exhaust vents at the top of the hood.
What size cooker hood do I need?

You need a hood that is at least the same width as the hob. There is extra benefit from fitting a hood larger than the hob as this will ensure the steam and orders hit the suction area of the hood. You can’t use a hood smaller than the hob.
