Glass kitchen sinks
our sink is one of the most dramatic features of a kitchen, often overlooked for functionality over style. Of course we all want a hardwearing sink, but many people think that you need a steel, ceramic or the manmade granite composites to ensure longevity.
For that reason, glass is often overlooked. But with today’s manufacturing methods, toughened safety glass is a fantastic option that is just as hardwearing as the other materials.
About half of us will have an electric or induction hob. 95% of those have a black glass hob. With a black glass sink such as ours, you get a perfect match with your other appliance already on the worktop. Granted, the composites can look good and with the range of colours available you can find something to match your cabinets in your gloss kitchen, but if you have a big black square on your worktop anyway, matching that look is a great alternative.
Fitting is simple. Use the provided diagram to measure the cut-out, use the attached clips to keep it in place and simply use some silicon to attach it securely and safely to the worktop. Most glass sinks are flat, so make sure just to add a little extra silicon to one edge to create a run off for the water.
There are various accessories available. One of our favourites is the rollamat designed to fit perfectly on the draining board, just adding that extra level of security for sitting your plates and mugs on the sink. It also doubles up as a worktop protector for any hot pans and simply rolls up when not in use and can be popped in the dishwasher to clean.
A large pull out tap completes the look perfectly. Why not try one with a black flexihose to compliment the striking black of the glass sink?
Glass sinks aren’t generally reversible, so you have to make sure you buy the correct sided drainer (normally abbreviated to RHD for right hand drainer or LHD for left). Also single bowl (1.0) or 1 and ½ (1.5) Bowl variations exist.
Cleaning the sinks is straightforward. Avoid abrasive cleaners and cloths. Never use wire wool or pan scrubbers, simply wipe using a damp cloth using soapy water or a mild detergent.
